BMW E30 VDO KPH Instrument Cluster Service Kit – 30 Piece

Removing and disassembling a BMW E30 instrument cluster takes time. Once the cluster is apart, replacing only one failed battery, bulb or odometer gear often means repeating the same job later when another original component reaches the end of its service life.

This 30-piece BMW E30 VDO KPH instrument cluster service kit brings together the key service items commonly replaced during a complete cluster refresh.

Instead of repairing one component at a time, the kit allows you to service the SI board, odometer mechanism, cluster illumination and gauge hardware during the same repair.

Important Fitment Check

This kit is specifically intended for VDO KPH clusters.

It is not intended for Motometer clusters or MPH versions.

BMW E30 clusters were produced by both VDO and Motometer, and the odometer gearing differs between versions. KPH and MPH configurations may also use different gearing.

Please confirm that your cluster is VDO and KPH/km/h before ordering.

2 × FDK SI board batteries
Replacement batteries for the Service Indicator control board.

5 × SI board capacitors
For replacement of ageing capacitors on the instrument cluster control/SI board.

3 × VDO KPH odometer gears
Correctly matched gear set for the VDO km/h application.

2 × main instrument cluster illumination bulbs
For the primary backlighting of the gauge cluster.

10 × OSRAM indicator bulbs
Quality replacement bulbs for the instrument cluster warning and indicator illumination.

8 × new black gauge screws
Replace old, discoloured or corroded screws and improve the appearance of the instrument cluster.

Why Replace Everything at Once?

Many BMW E30 instrument clusters are now several decades old.

Even when only one component has currently failed, other original components inside the cluster may be of a similar age.

Replacing the main service items while the cluster is already removed can help avoid repeated dashboard removal, repeated cluster disassembly, additional labour, future odometer gear failure, ageing SI board components, failed illumination bulbs and visibly corroded gauge screws.

The idea is simple:

Remove it once. Service it properly. Reinstall it once.

SI Board Service

The E30 Service Indicator board is an important part of the instrument cluster electronics.

Ageing or failed batteries and deterioration of electronic components can contribute to SI board and instrument-cluster problems. Battery leakage can also damage the board itself, which is why the condition of the SI board should always be inspected while servicing the cluster.

This kit provides 2 FDK replacement batteries and 5 capacitors for this part of the service.

VDO KPH Odometer Repair

Age-related deterioration of the original odometer gears is one of the common mechanical problems affecting BMW E30 instrument clusters.

The supplied gear set is specifically intended for the VDO KPH/km/h configuration.

This distinction matters because VDO and Motometer clusters use different gearing, and KPH and MPH configurations may also differ.

Cluster Lighting Refresh

The kit includes both the primary illumination bulbs and 10 OSRAM indicator bulbs, allowing the lighting components to be refreshed while the cluster is already disassembled.

Replacing ageing bulbs at the same time can save another cluster removal later.

Installation

Installation requires removal and disassembly of the BMW E30 instrument cluster.

Replacement of the SI board batteries and capacitors requires appropriate electronic soldering skills and equipment.

Professional installation is recommended if you are not experienced with electronic circuit-board repair.

Always inspect the existing SI board for corrosion, leaking batteries, damaged tracks or other electrical damage before installation.

Please Note

This is a service and replacement component kit. It cannot repair every possible instrument-cluster fault.

Clusters with severe battery leakage, damaged circuit-board traces, failed electronic components, damaged gauges or other underlying faults may require additional repair.

Please verify that your cluster is VDO, KPH/km/h and the correct later-style version before purchasing.
